This special issue seeks to identify and understand some of the unique
aspects and novelties of Discrete Modeling and Simulation Tools and their
applications. The focus could be on the computing abilities and principles
of the Discrete Models - where the focus is on their expressive dynamics to
represent phenomena of arbitrary complexity, their emergent computation, and
their inherent parallelism, making them suitable for high performance
computing. Attention could also be placed on the applications of these
Discrete Modeling and Simulation Tools themselves, providing solutions to
problems from different fields like physics, engineering, environment
science, social science, and life sciences.
