As you know I am always in favor of an idealistic argument (which BTW, I
am not sure is correct, we should probably put the whole issue up to the
public MathML mailing list, where Murray Sargent can see this). But
UniCode DOES define ⁢ to be invisible (in all situations),
but maybe audibly represented. So I do not think that there is any leeway
for the rendering agent to make a visible glyph between two numbers.
Therefore we need something else there.
